Much of the Massachusetts housing stock was built prior to 1978. As such, that property may contain dangerous levels of lead which can be harmful to small children. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts, which is one of the most aggressive states in the country in protecting consumers, passed Lead Paint legislation in the early 1990’s. It is the Seller’s responsibility to disclose any known levels of lead paint, and the Buyer’s responsibility to investigate if they have any concerns.
